Sally Redman

Our very own Madame Thenardier, Sally Redman, sings Dolly Parton’s “Get Out and Stay Out” from 9 to 5 the musical in this next instalment of Noteable Theatre Company’s Ghost Light Concert.

When asked about her choice of song for the concert Sally says “It is one of my all-time favourite musical theatre songs, it’s the moment where the character Judy realises she doesn’t need a man [in her life] and that she can make it on her own”.  Redman goes onto say “She gains strength and confidence throughout the show with the support from the other two female lead characters”.  For Sally this song just screams “Girl Power” and she loved belting out this tune for the Ghost Light Concert  “It makes me feel powerful and strong”.

For Sally there’s no beating around the bush when it comes to Covid 19 as the pandemics and ongoing lockdowns and closures have sucked the fun out of life! Performing is her vice, it helps her de-stress; “Some people meditate… I perform” she says.  She insists that if she’s learned anything from the current situation it is to take time for herself and not take all the wonderful performing opportunities, she’s had for granted.

Sally has been performing so long that it is difficult to list them all so she has decided to add some of her favoutie roles to her bio for this article.   “Each and every show has a special place in my heart,” Sally told us.

You may have seen her on stage as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray for  Rockdale Canterbury theatre guild combined,  Gertrude McFuzz in  Seussical for Engadine Musical Society, Ado Annie in Oklahoma for Miranda Musical Society, Jan in Grease, Widow Corney in Oliver and Little Red Riding Hood in Into The Woods all for Engadine Musical Society and most recently Madame Thenardier in Les Misérables for Noteable Theatre Company a role that she is reviving in our return production in March this year.

“My favourite role I’ve portrayed is Blanche Barrow in Shire Music Theatres production of Bonnie and Clyde but I have to say Madame Thenardier is a very close second” Sally says.
