Ruby Hawken

Welcome to Act 2 of our GHOSTLIGHT CONCERT series, we are very pleased to introduce Ruby Hawken, one of Sydney’s young rising stars, fresh from completing her HSC Ruby’s passion for performing will hopefully see her career take off in the world of live entertainment.

Ruby performed in NTC’s 2019 production of Les Miserables and looks forward to returning to the show in March. In addition, she has previously performed in numerous musical theatre productions, including Little Women (SMT), Evita (WTC), Dreamgirls (RMS), The Addams Family (SMS), and The Sound of Music (RMS). She is a 2020 graduate of the Talent Development Project and has been a soloist in the Schools Spectacular and Southern Stars Arena Spectacular, for which she received a CAT Award for Best Variety Performance in 2018. This year Ruby will begin her studies at NIDA.

‘Home’ reveals the inner thoughts of a person who has lost everything she cares for, including her family and her hopes to fulfill her ambitions. It is an expression of Belle’s refusal to lose herself to her present circumstances, as well as her unwillingness to accept a life she did not choose. Ruby says “I am inspired by her courage and strength”.

“I am of the opinion that this song fits our situation like a glove, as it conveys the inner turmoil one experiences when an opportunity is ripped away.” She says referring to the current situation in the arts world and the current global situation with Covid 19. “Many performers and artists, including myself, can relate to what Belle is feeling and can be inspired by her decision to overcome her situation and find a way through”.

Ruby goes onto tell that “Over this past year, the theatre industry has reflected this immense resilience and adaptability, and there is hope as well as happiness to be found in that”.
