Keira Connelly
New South Wales is on the verge of lifting COVID restrictions allowing us all to sing once again in our theatres from this Monday onwards and what better way to celebrate than with our next episode of the Ghost Light Concert.
Keira Connelly performs “My Man” from Funny Girl the musical, based on the life and career of Broadway star, film actress, and comedian Fanny Brice featuring her stormy relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nick Arnstein.
Funny Girl was nominated for 8 Tony Awards when released on Broadway in 1964.
When asked why she chose this particular song Keira said “It’s a big sing, big band, big emotion. Who hasn’t fallen for the wrong man?”
While restrictions have impacted performers all over the globe Keira learned never to take her time on stage for granted.
Keira has played some fantastic strong female roles over the years including Fantine in Les Misérables, the title role of Eva “Evita” Perón in Evita, Florence in Chess, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, Sandy in Grease, Maureen in Rent, April in Company, Madame Morrible in Wicked, The SQUIP in Be More Chill, Annas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Lara in A Chorus Line, The ‘Yellow’ Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, herself in Godspell, KKK dancer in Cabaret, Errato the Muse of Erotica in Xanadu, Tia in Bringing the House Down and Princess Jasmine in Aladdin. “My favorite role is and always will be Eva Peron in Evita. Being able to portray an iconic, passionate, and fiery woman like her while belting out one incredible song after another was the most amazing experience a performer could have”.
Keira can be seen reprising the role of Fantine in Noteable Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Les Miserables this coming March at The Concourse Theatre, Chatswood.
This Episode of The Ghost Light Concert has been made possible with the support of Willoughby City Council and the Zenith Theatre, Chatswood.
