What Do You Do With a B.A. in English?
Playing at the Zenith Theatre in October 2022, this laugh-out-loud over 18’s musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighbourhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
Filled with gut-busting humour and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that will leave audience’s rolling down the aisles with laughter.
About
Princeton, a life-pondering recent college graduate, comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. But first, he must find an apartment and a job. Beginning his search on Avenue A, he finally finds an affordable apartment on Avenue Q. His new neighbours are Kate Monster, a kindergarten assistant teacher; Rod, an obsessively neat Republican investment banker; Nicky, Rod’s slacker roommate; Brian, an aspiring comedian recently laid off from his catering job; Christmas Eve, Brian’s Japanese fiancée and a therapist with no clients; Trekkie Monster, a surly recluse who surfs the Internet all day in search of porn; and Gary Coleman, the building superintendent.
Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life. After false-start relationships and disappointing dead-end jobs, Princeton realises that discovering one’s purpose and identity is a difficult, never-ending process.
Avenue Q is about real life. It’s about finding a job, losing a job, learning about racism, getting an apartment, getting kicked out of your apartment, being different, falling in love, promiscuity, avoiding commitment, hangovers, Internet porn and discovering the world. In the real world, many people never find their purpose, but life goes on, and everything, both good and bad, is “only for now.”
